Meralco defeats Petron, 80-70
Sol Mercado played his 1st game in the All-Filipino Conference and took over the game with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists as Meralco defeated Petron and handed the Boosters their 1st loss this conference. Gabby Espinas and Asi Taulava also had big baskets in the 4th period which kept Petron at bay, Espinas had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds while Taulava contributed 8 points and 9 rebounds.
With Mercado helping in the offense of the Bolts, it was the defense of Meralco that was impressive, holding Petron to only 70 points as Meralco improved their standings to 3 wins and 2 losses.
Arwind Santos led Petron with 17 points and the Boosters dropped their record to 3 wins and 1 loss.
